This is what Vice Ganda felt after the viral contestant had a guided tour of COMELEC.
It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda has this to say about the guided tour given to Heart Aquino, the viral contestant from their segment.
“So, sino ang may kasalanan na hindi ka informed?”
“Oh my gosh, that’s bothersome.”
Those were some of the words from Vice Ganda after hearing a 20-year-old contestant confess of not knowing the functions of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). The interview about COMELEC went viral, and it raised questions and sparked discussions among the people.
Vice realized two things from this incident: first, there are a lot of beautiful people in the Philippines, and second, there are systemic and educational problems in the country.
It’s concerning to very people how someone who is already 20 years old still have a little idea about the poll body. This has made people realize the educational crisis in the country and, at the same time, COMELEC should also look into it as this could indicate something about its obligation to reach out to people.
Aquino was invited to COMELEC for further and better understanding and reacting to this was Vice Ganda who has mixed feelings.
In an interview, Vice expressed that he is happy as to how the poll body welcomed the contestant with an open mind. He also appreciated how COMELEC admitted that it was a sign of failure on their part and pointed out their lack in spreading information about the poll body.
However, while the COMELEC was graceful enough to welcome the contestant, he believes that a systemic approach is still needed to promote voter education. Educating the people should be widespread and through their show, they wanted to help, hence, the launching of “Quiz V”.
This is a new segment of It’s Showtime where people are asked random questions that will test their general knowledge. Vice and the staff were delighted as to how people gleefully embraced this challenge.
“Nakakatuwa na it’s working. The people are liking it, the people are participating, sumasagot sila, and they feel proud of themselves pag nakakasagot sila,” he said regarding the new segment.
