CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President reacted to the comment of President Bongbong Marcos’ spokesperson over the special session on Duterte’s impeachment trial.
Many Filipinos await an update on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The House of Representatives approved the impeachment of the Vice President after 2/3 of the lawmakers signed it.

Presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos was one of the signatories in the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. There are rumors accusing Pres. Bongbong Marcos of being behind the impeachment raps against the Vice President due to the timing of the events.
Marcos and Duterte’s relationship has turned sour. There were several instances when the Vice President threw tirades against the Chief Executive. Considering the rumors, a Malacañang official previously said that Pres. Marcos would be in an “awkward position” to request for a special session.

Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said that it would be better if it would be Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero who will write a request for a special session on the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to Castro, Pres. Bongbong Marcos will do it despite his previous pronouncement if there is a request.
The Malacañang Official also said that if majority of the senators want to start the impeachment trial, they can also write to Pres. Marcos if the Senate President is not acting on the matter.
