One of the most historic events in the Philippines is the EDSA Revolution where the strength of the unity of the Filipino people prevailed. Through it, then dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was ousted from office.

Marcos Sr. ruled in the Philippines for more than 20 years. There were lots of accusations and issues over the alleged violation of human rights during his term. There were also issues about the alleged silencing of the press.
The late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was ousted and the late former Pres. Cory Aquino was elected to office. She became the first female president of the country. Since then, the EDSA People Power Revolution is commemorated in the Philippines every year.

Usually, the EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary is a non-working holiday in the Philippines every 25th of February. However, the list of holidays 2025 in the Philippines this time has the event as a special working day.

Undeniably, the EDSA People Power anniversary being a special working day under the administration of Marcos Sr.’s namesake, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, gain different reactions from the people. Recently, Malacañang moved to defend the decision of the President.
Based on a report on GMA News, Malacañang press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stressed that “it is the prerogative of the President”. According to the newly-appointed executive of the Palace, the decision of Marcos Jr. will not hinder any activity set for the EDSA People Power anniversary celebration.
“And when we say special working day, still there is encouragement to people to commemorate, to join any event and it will not hinder any activity to commemorate the EDSA People Power,’‘ Castro said.
Based on the report, on the opinions that Marcos Jr. is trying to revise the history of the Philippines, the Malacañang Press Officer said that these are just opinions of those who allegedly want to criticize the President.
“Unang-una, isipin po natin, mayroon po bang pinahinto ang Pangulo na anumang activity na patungkol dito sa commemoration ng EDSA People?” she said.
Atty. Claire Castro stressed that since Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. sat as president there was allegedly no order to stop any event in line with the EDSA anniversary celebration. According to her, she does not believe that not declaring this day as a special non-working day undermines the event.
