Update on Health Condition of Pope Francis amid Hospitalization
POPE FRANCIS – The Vatican issued a statement about the clinical condition of the Roman Pontiff who is still in a critical state now.
Countless Catholic leaders and devotees are currently on a prayer brigade for the Pope as he fights for his life in Gemelli hospital in Rome. He is suffering from double pneumonia that affects his breathing and he recently had a respiratory attack.

Last February 14, 2025, Pope Francis was confined to the hospital after suffering from chest pains. He had bronchitis which developed into pneumonia. Amid his treatment, the Roman Pontiff expressed his belief that he may not live longer.
The Pope even told two (2) people close to him that he might “not make it this time”. Wake and funeral preparations have started amid the health condition of the 88-year-old Sovereign Pontiff.

Funeral rehearsal for the Pope has began and the Swiss Guard are also reportedly under a curfew over a possible demise of the Sovereign Pontiff. On the 7th day of his confinement, the clinical condition of the Pope showed slight improvements.

However, despite the slight improvements in his clinical condition, the doctors of Pope Francis admitted that he is still not out of danger. Meanwhile, the doctors said that the Roman Pontiff is out of the risk of a possible demise at the moment.
“The question is, is the pope out of danger? No, the pope is not out of danger. If you then ask whether he is in danger of dying at this moment, the answer is still no,” the Professor said.

The Pope is confined in a special papal suite on the 10th floor of the Gemelli hospital. Then, Professor Sergio Alfieri said that the Roman Pontiff was moving between his bed and a chair and he also visits an adjacent chapel to pray. The Professor said they intend to let the Pope stay in the hospital for another whole week to avoid him from getting back to so much work.
However, on Saturday, Pope Francis suffered from a “prolonged asthma-like respiratory crises”. Based on a report on GMA News, he had to undergo a transfusion of two (2) units of blood. Recently, the Vatican released an update.
According to the Vatican, Pope Francis remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, based on the report, the Holy Father has not experienced further respiratory crises since Saturday night.
The Vatican further stated that a “slight” kidney issue was detected after the blood test found “an initial, slight renal insufficiency, which is currently under control”. Based on the report, the Pope is “alert and well-oriented” and he is under a “high-flow oxygen therapy” via a tube under his nose.
