Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Signs Petition of VP Sara Duterte Filed before the SC
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President is one of the lawyers of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in her petition seeking to block the impeachment trial.
A few weeks ago, a decision of the House of Representatives has earned different reactions from the Filipinos. The lower chamber has decided to have Vice Pres. Sara Duterte impeached from her position.

Several impeachment complaints have been filed by the different group of complainants against Vice Pres. Duterte before the House. Among the complainants were groups of civic society leaders and religious people including Catholic priests.
Presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos was one of those who signed the impeachment rap against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The impeachment complaints against the VP revolved around the questions over the budget spending of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was the education secretary.

There are several calls for the Senate to act fast on starting the impeachment trial. However, Senate President Chiz Escudero previously said that they won’t force VP Sara to attend the impeachment trial unless it is really needed.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking to block the impeachment trial. Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, her father, is one of the lawyers who signed the petition filed by the Vice President.
Vice Pres. Duterte filed the 36-page petition for certiorari and prohibition. It was filed before the high court on Tuesday, February 18.

Aside from former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, five (5) other lawyers have signed the petition filed by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the pursuit to block the impeachment trial. Based on a report on GMA News, the petition appeals to the high court to issue a temporary restraining order and/or writ of preliminary injunction.
Furthermore, Vice Pres. Duterte also appealed to the Supreme Court to issue a final injunction and nullify the fourth impeachment complaint filed against her. Reportedly, there are six major allegations on the impeachment complaint against Duterte.
