Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President and Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David expressed as he asked for prayers for Pope Francis who is currently battling double pneumonia. The Pope is facing a health scare and has been in the hospital since February 14.

According to the update: Laboratory tests, chest X-rays, and the clinical condition of the Holy Father continue to present a complex picture.”

Double pneumonia is a condition that affects both lungs and causes inflammation of the alveoli. This inflammation results in difficulty in breathing and its symptoms vary on various factors such as age, general health, and the type of infection. The ‘complex’ respiratory infection of the Pope also involves asthmatic bronchitis.

Reportedly, the Pope told people close to him that he might not make it this time.

“I might not make it this time,” the Pope told two (2) people who are close to him.

Moreover, it has been reported that the Vatican is rehearsing for the funeral of the 88-year-old Pope. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, the Swiss Guard protecting the Pope is rehearsing with members ‘preparing for the pontiff’s death’.

The Pope has previously revealed that he already had his tomb prepared, however, the location of the grave and the coffin will break the tradition.

Who could be the next Pope? Some of the cardinals who might fill the position are Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Cardinal Peter Erdö, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, and Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke.
