Investigation Launched Into Toledo City Hospital Over Child’s Leg Amputation, Father Seeks Justice
A father in Toledo City, Cebu, seeks justice after his six-year-old son’s leg was amputated, allegedly due to hospital negligence.
The boy’s father, Daryl Sam Quimada, has filed a complaint with the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) against a government hospital in Toledo, alleging negligence that led to his son’s leg being amputated.
The issue began on February 4, 2025 when the child injured his left leg after stepping on broken glass while playing. Concerned about the wound, Quimada rushed his son to the hospital in Toledo City.
However, instead of a licensed doctor stitching the wound, a nursing attendant, who reportedly lacked proper qualifications, performed the procedure.
Two days later, the boy’s leg began to darken. Alarmed by the worsening condition, the family sought help from another hospital in Talisay City. Doctors there concluded that the infection had spread severely and recommended amputation.
On February 8, 2025, the child’s leg was partially amputated to prevent further complications. Seeking accountability, Quimada formally files a complaint with DOH-7.
Dr. Annessa Patindol, head of the DOH-7 Regulation, Licensing, and Enforcement Division, assured the family that a fact-finding investigation would be conducted. The team will examine the hospital staff’s actions and verify if the nursing attendant indeed performed a task meant for a licensed doctor.
“We will also conduct fact-finding investigation, kami mismo, ako ang mag-lead sa imbestigasyon,” Patindol said.
Meanwhile, the Toledo City General Hospital has launched its own internal investigation. Chief of hospital Dr. Abjel Khan Espera confirmed that the involved staff have been suspended while the inquiry is ongoing.

As the investigation unfolds, Quimada continues to seek justice for his son while appealing for financial assistance to cover the boy’s medical expenses.
