Teen in Cotabato Hospitalized After Mistaking Acid for Bottle of Mineral Water
A 13-year-old teen from Antipas, Cotabato is in critical condition after accidentally drinking acid, thinking it was mineral water.
Acid is a type of chemical that can be very strong or weak, depending on its type. Some acids are safe and even found in foods, like the citric acid in lemons and oranges, which gives them a sour taste. However, strong acids, like those used for cleaning or industrial purposes, can be dangerous.
They can burn the skin, damage materials, and cause serious harm if swallowed, inhaled, or if they come into contact with the eyes. That’s why it’s important to handle acids carefully, keep them in properly labeled containers, and store them safely away from children and food items.

Recently, a young man was hospitalized after mistaking acid for mineral water. The incident garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to his sister, Maryjane Langcuban, the boy grabbed what he thought was a bottle of mineral water without realizing it contained acid used for processing rubber cup lumps. Distracted by his cellphone, he didn’t notice anything unusual until it was too late.
Soon after taking a sip, his mouth and throat began to swell, and he started having seizures with foam coming out of his mouth. The incident happened shortly after he had dinner at home.
Neighbors quickly came to help and rushed him to the nearest hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, doctors plan to transfer him to Cotabato Regional Medical Center for more specialized treatment.
His family is now appealing for financial assistance to cover his medical expenses as they hope for his recovery.
The incident reminds the public to keep hazardous substances properly labeled and stored away from common household items to prevent accidents like this from happening.
