Jeepney Robbery in Quezon City Leaves 1 Dead, 5 Injured
A jeepney robbery in Quezon City left one passenger dead and five others injured, while bystanders caught and beat the suspect.
The tragic jeepney robbery took place along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City after the passengers jumped out of the moving vehicle in panic. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. when a man armed with a knife declared a holdup.
The jeepney was on its way from Lagro to Cubao when the suspect boarded near Don Fabian. Moments later, he brandished his knife and demanded the passengers’ belongings. One female passenger hesitated to hand over her bag because it contained her identification cards.

Fearing she would be stabbed, she eventually gave it up. Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Other passengers, including the driver’s partner, jumped from the jeep in a desperate attempt to escape. She had been holding the driver’s earnings for the day, totaling nearly P1,000. In the chaos, she thought they had already been attacked, which made her jump.
The suspect attempted to flee but was chased down by bystanders, including motorcycle riders. They caught him and delivered a beating before authorities arrived. Responding officers had to step in to stop the mob from inflicting further harm.
The suspect, a 54-year-old man, was left with multiple injuries and was seen limping.
Police later recovered the stolen bag and the knife used in the crime. The suspect, who had a previous record of theft, admitted to the crime and expressed regret. He claimed he had lost his job and had committed many mistakes in his life.
The suspect is currently in police custody while facing charges of robbery with homicide and physical injuries. Authorities turned him over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at Camp Karingal for further investigation.
