Director Darryl Yap seeks gag order against Vic Sotto’s camp over cyber libel case.
Filmmaker Darryl Yap asked the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 to issue a gag order against Vic Sotto.
Veteran actor-TV host Vic Sotto filed a case against filmmaker Darryl Yap. He directed a Pepsi Paloma movie and in a teaser, the name of Vic Sotto was clearly mentioned as someone who violated the late actress.
Sotto sued Yap seeking Php 35 million as total damages. He filed the case before the Muntinlupa Regional Court with his wife Pauleen Luna and legal counsel Buko dela Cruz. After the teaser was released, Sotto was asked about his reaction by countless people, and what he did was the reaction he needed to make.
There was nothing personal but he was against irresponsible individuals. When asked why he filed 19 counts of cyber libel, his legal counsel shared that it was for the number of times the director shared the post. The director posted 19 times, hence, the 19 counts.
Recently, following the cyber libel complaints, the camp of the director requested the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 205 to issue a gag order against Sotto. A gag order prohibits the parties and lawyers from disclosing any information about the pending case in any manner.
The request stated, “Further considering that the verified return shall involve an unreleased film by a prominent director, any disclosure of the verified return would not only violate the Respondent’s freedom of expression, but it shall also cause grave and irreparable damage to the Respondent’s artistic license and outcome of the film.”
As of this writing, the Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 has only ordered the issuance of a Writ of Habeas Data.
