ENERGY DRINK – A 16-year-old boy in Pangasinan tragically passed away allegedly after drinking multiple energy drinks.
A family from Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, mourns the sudden death of their 16-year-old son, Mark Jolo Abrera. According to his parents, Lorie and Marvin Abrera, Mark Jolo’s passing was allegedly linked to his consumption of multiple energy drinks.
On January 4, 2025 (Saturday), Mark Jolo spent the day helping at a construction site as an extra job. During the morning, he consumed a popular energy drink along with another similar beverage.

After returning home, he reportedly drank yet another bottle of energy drink and had a heavy dinner.
Around 9 PM, Mark Jolo went to bed. By 4 AM, his parents were startled awake by the sound of his loud snoring. Worried, they tried to wake him but were unsuccessful. In desperation, they searched for a mobile phone to call for help but couldn’t borrow one in time.
With no other option, Marvin carried Mark Jolo on a motorcycle and rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, it was too late and he was declared dead-on-arrival.

The death certificate stated that Mark Jolo died of cardiac arrest. While there is no official confirmation linking the energy drinks to his death, the family believes the beverages, combined with fatigue and overeating, may have contributed to the tragic incident.
The tragic incident has sparked discussions about the potential health risks of energy drink overconsumption, particularly for young individuals. It also emphasizes the importance of health awareness and prompt access to medical help in emergencies.

Several kind-hearted individuals have donated cash to ease the financial burden of the victim’s family.
