Why Dennis Trillo Gave Away His 2024 MMFF Prize

DENNIS TRILLO – Know the touching story behind why Dennis Trillo chose to donate his 2024 MMFF prize to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and how his gesture reflects the heart of his award-winning film Green Bones.

Dennis Trillo, the celebrated actor in the MMFF 2024 hit film Green Bones, has reaffirmed his dedication to social causes by donating his PHP 100,000 monetary prize to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). Trillo, who won the Best Actor award at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, chose to channel his prize into a meaningful initiative.

In an interview aired during the January 5 episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Dennis shared the inspiration behind his generous gesture. “’Yung kuwento po ng Green Bones, para naman po talaga sa kanila,” he told host Jessica Soho. The film’s narrative, which highlights the struggles and aspirations of PDLs, deeply resonated with him, making the donation a heartfelt tribute.

The actor also shared a poignant wish inspired by the fictional Tree of Hope depicted in Green Bones. The concept was based on a real wish tree at the General Trias City Jail, where PDLs express their dreams and aspirations. “Matapos na ang giyera sa ibang bansa, giyera sa mga sarili natin, giyera sa pamilya, giyera sa kahit saan. Kapag walang conflict, mas masaya, ‘di ba? Mas peaceful,” Dennis reflected.

According to Dennis’s road manager, Jan Enriquez, the idea to donate the prize stemmed from a suggestion by his wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado, after the awards night. Jan handed over the amount to JC Rubio, senior program manager for I-Witness and Kara Docs, who also conceptualized Green Bones. “Doon po gagamitin ang 100K para matupad ang mga munti nilang hiling,” Jan shared, emphasizing that the donation would fund initiatives aimed at bringing hope and joy to PDLs by fulfilling their small yet significant wishes.
