A warrant of arrest was issued vs. Jude Bacalso following the issue with a server.
Former TV personality and host Jude Bacalso faces an arrest warrant after berating a food server due to misgendering.
In a previous article posted in July 2024, an LGBTQIA+ customer allegedly made a food server stand for two hours after the latter called her “Sir”. The post made by another netizen who witnessed the incident at a restaurant in Cebu City went viral online and the customer was heavily criticized online.
The customer was Jude Bacalso, a former TV personality and host. The waiter shared that he was being punished due to misgendering but such an act, for many people, was excessive. The sharer of the post stepped into the situation and had the waiter take a break.
The food server already apologized to Bacalso but she refused to accept it.
After the issue went viral, Bacalso apologized for the incident. She said in the post:
“Yes, I was addressed as ‘sir.’ No, I did not scream or shout at the wait staff who did. Did the staff stand there for hours? Yes, we were waiting to resolve it with the owners. Did I demand that he stand there as punishment? No. The supervisor was there when I discussed with the erring staff that perhaps a gender sensitivity seminar would benefit them.”
Months following the issue, a warrant of arrest for grave slander by deed has been issued against Bacalso. The order came from the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 6. The food server called “Mark”, not his real name, suffered psychological distress following the incident. He filed multiple charges against the customer on August 28.
The arraignment and pre-trial were scheduled on January 23 as per a report from CDN.
