Epy Quizon Reflects on Time When His Father Dolphy Was Alive & Strong
EPY QUIZON – Actor Epy Quizon fondly reminisces about the days when his father, the legendary Dolphy, was alive and strong, wishing he could relive the moments of laughter and wisdom they shared together.
Veteran actor Epy Quizon is widely respected in the entertainment industry, admired not only for his versatile acting in both comedy and drama but also for his talent as a director. Currently, he is receiving praise for his role as Julio Borromeo, a Filipino theater owner from the 1940s, in the 2024 GMA drama series Pulang Araw.
Epy’s remarkable performance is fueled by the enduring inspiration he draws from his late father, the iconic Comedy King Dolphy, whose impact on the entertainment world remains unmatched.
Epy’s admiration for his father transcends his work on Pulang Araw; he carries the lessons and memories left by Dolphy in his personal life and professional projects. In a heartfelt interview with Aster Amoyo, Epy expressed how much he misses his father, sharing that if he could turn back time, he would revisit the days when Dolphy was at his strongest and most vibrant. “Noong malakas pa ang tatay ko. Kung babalikan ko lang, a. Wala ako papalitan pero sana noong malakas pa ang tatay ko, sana mas kinulit ko sa bahay niya,” Epy reflected.
He also fondly recalled their family gatherings, particularly their Sunday dinners, which were filled with laughter and lively conversations that often had others at nearby tables joining in the fun.
Beyond the joyful moments, Epy deeply values the wisdom his father imparted. “Sa lahat ng lumalabas sa bibig niya may kasamang wisdom, may wittiness. Whether through a joke or out of a joke, same wittiness niya ‘yung wisdom na binabahagi niya sa lahat ng mga kausap niya. Iyon ang nakaka-miss na may kasamang tawanan habang ginagawa niya iyon,” Epy shared.
Even now, Epy continues to seek his father’s guidance as he navigates his own career in entertainment, a craft he learned from Dolphy. “Usually when I’m at work I pray. I usually ask for guidance from him. I don’t know if it’s the right to ask for guidance from him, pero that’s what I do. It’s his craft, it’s what I learned from him,” he said.
As Epy chases his dreams in showbiz and helps manage the family business, he remains grounded in his father’s teachings, applying them daily—especially in showing respect and gentlemanly values toward women.
