PWD Businessman Loses Livelihood After Scam Involving Rented SUVs

PWD Businessman Loses Livelihood After Falling Into Scam

A PWD businessman in Pangasinan is struggling after losing his primary source of income when two SUVs he rented out were pawned and remain missing.

The victim, identified as Edwin Dizon, a resident of Barangay Salay, began renting out his vehicles in 2023 to a woman from La Union, whom he initially found trustworthy. At first, the arrangement went smoothly, with the renter making timely payments.

Dizon agreed to additional transactions, including one in October 2024 involving two other individuals.

However, in December 2024, the payments stopped. Dizon attempted to recover his vehicles but discovered they had been illegally pawned in San Fernando City, La Union. The renters had disabled the SUVs’ GPS trackers, leaving them untraceable.

The suspects also stopped responding to Dizon’s calls, leaving him with no way to retrieve his vehicles.

The businessman finds it devastating, as renting out his vehicles was his main source of income, supporting his daily needs as a person with a disability. Determined to seek justice, he is gathering evidence to file a case against those responsible to prevent them from targeting other victims.

Mangaldan Police PCAPT Vicente Abrazaldo Jr. has committed to taking action. They are coordinating with San Fernando City officials to track down the suspects, using available addresses and photos for identification.

The Highway Patrol Group has also been alerted to help in locating the vehicles and the individuals involved.

Authorities have urged vehicle owners to exercise caution by verifying renters’ identities and ensuring proper documentation, such as notarized contracts, to avoid falling prey to similar scams.
