According to a report from NDTV, China is reportedly facing an outbreak of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV). It has flu-like symptoms and allegedly, hospitals are overcrowded because of the infection.

There was reportedly a surge of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), Influenza A, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Covid-19. Reports about this circulating online cause public fear. Will there be another pandemic to happen again?

The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines on Friday, January 3, dismissed this and tagged it as fake news. There’s also no truth about declaring a state of emergency in China due to the overwhelming numbers of people in hospitals and crematoriums.

In a statement from the DOH, there was also no confirmation from the World Health Organization (WHO) or Chinese authorities about the alleged outbreak. The organization assured the people that they are actively verifying details about the matter and asked them to refrain from sharing unverified reports to avoid the spread of false information and confusion.

As they do verify matters, they assured as well to keep the people updated.

The statement said, “Please do not share questionable websites or online sources. Let us not spread misinformation and confusion.”

DOH further stressed that the Philippines is an active participant of Member States of WHO that follows International Health Regulations (IHR).
