Elderly Man Injured After Being Attacked While Caroling in Negros Oriental
An elderly man in Bais City, Negros Oriental, was left injured and bleeding after being attacked with his own guitar while caroling.
Caroling is the tradition of singing songs, usually festive or Christmas-themed, from house to house, often as a way to spread holiday cheer. In many cultures, groups of people go caroling during the Christmas season, singing songs such as “Jingle Bells” or “Silent Night” to celebrate the festive spirit.
Carolers are often welcomed with warmth, and it’s common for them to receive small treats, coins, or gifts in return for their performances.
Recently, Magos Christy Joy Lapay, a Facebook user, shared photos and videos of an injured 89-year-old man, known as Nicholas, after being attacked while caroling. The post immediately garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to reports, Nicholas was going from house to house singing carols when one of the household members approached him, snatched his guitar, and struck him with it. The misunderstanding started when he was mistakenly identified as a thief by the housekeeper.
Lapay shared that the incident took place at Sitio Cantulingi in Payagan, Bais City. The video showed the elderly man visibly injured, which earned both outrage and sympathy from netizens.
Many online users condemned the violent act and expressed their concern for Lolo Nicholas, with some calling for better protection for vulnerable individuals like him.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying situations before resorting to extreme actions. The video shows that a tragic mistake not only harmed an innocent man but also emphasized the need for compassion and awareness when dealing with strangers.
