2 Motorcycles Catch Fire During New Year’s Eve Celebration

Two motorcycles unexpectedly caught fire during New Year’s eve celebrations, one in Panabo City and another in Davao City.

New Year celebrations are never complete without noise! Around the world, people love to make it loud as they welcome a fresh start. From fireworks and honking horns to banging pots or even revving motorcycles.

In many traditions, the noise isn’t just for fun; it’s believed to chase away bad vibes and bring good luck for the year ahead. Filipinos take this to heart by getting super creative. You’ll see people honking car horns, shaking coins in cans, setting off firecrackers, and making noise however they can.

But sometimes, things can get a little too exciting and turn risky. For example, incidents like motorcycles catching fire while being revved up as noise-makers remind us to keep celebrations safe.

An unfortunate incident happened in Panabo City, Barangay Sto. Niño. The owner was revving the motorcycle’s engine over and over, trying to add some excitement to the night with its loud noise.

Unfortunately, the engine overheated, and flames suddenly burst out. People rushed to help, throwing water at the fire and attempting to drag the motorcycle away, but the fire was too intense to control easily.

According to John Leo Cordero, who captured the video, the motorcycle was over-accelerated, which caused it to catch fire.

Over in Calinan, Davao City, a similar scene happened. A motorcycle became an alternative noisemaker for the celebration until it also burst into flames. The crowd quickly scattered, with onlookers trying to stop the fire from spreading.

Luckily, no one was hurt in either incident, but it served as a lesson. While it’s fun to make noise and celebrate, it’s important to be mindful of safety.
