Many Filipinos are undeniably fond of practicing the superstitious beliefs every New Year. Many of these beliefs have even became New Year traditions in countless households in the Philippines. These include the preparation of the 12 fruits, the wearing of polka dots, the opening of doors and windows, etc.
Most Pinoys also see to it that all lights are turned on as the clock strikes 12 midnight to attract abundance and prosperity. Are you one of those who practice the New Year superstitious beliefs?
With regards to these practices, one thing that may be costly is the preparation of the 12 fruits. Thus, there are questions if how many fruits do you really have to prepare or does they all have to be in round shape. Recently, a Feng Shui expert spoke on the fruits for New Year.
Based on a report on GMA News Balitambayan, Master Ang said that it does not really matter how many fruits you have on the table on New Year’s eve as long as there are fruits. He stressed that fruits complete the dinner table.
“Ang prutas kasi ang kumokompleto sa pagkain. Kaya importante talaga na mayroon tayong inilalapag sa lamesa kapag tayo ay magse-celebrate ng bagong taon,” Master Ang said.
However, to name a fruit that is really believed to attract abundance, the Feng Shui expert named pineapple or “pinya”. It is considered as the king of fruits when it comes to luck. It is believed in Chinese Feng Shui that pineapple brings abundance, wealth, and luck.
Based on the report, Master Ang said that it does not matter if there are only two (2) fruits in the New Year’s eve table. There are also no particulars as to which fruit you should really have.
The Feng Shui expert said that people should not believe in really having 12 fruits on the New Year’s eve table to attract luck and abundance. He also downplayed the belief that 12 pieces of grapes must be placed below the dinner table.
Master Ang stressed that the abovementioned practice is not taught in Feng Shui and food must be prepared on the table not below it. According to him, there is really no misfortune and it depends on the person how to make his luck.
“Wala namang taong malas. Nasa tao lang talaga kung papaano sila gagawa ng suwerte,” Master Ang said.
Aside from having the 12 fruits on the table, there are also beliefs about the lucky foods for New Year’s Eve.
