VP Sara Duterte may be Defended by Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte; Ready to Face Impeachment Complaints
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President may serve as the lawyer of Vice President Sara Duterte on the impeachment complaints against her.
Vice Pres. Duterte is faced with several issues right now. There are three (3) pending impeachment complaints filed against Duterte by different groups of complainants. The complaints were filed before the House of Representatives.
The third impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was filed by priests and lawyers. According to the Catholic priests, it is their moral obligation to challenge Duterte in the position amid the issues.
According to the legal counsel of the complainants, ordinary priests are behind the third impeachment complaint. The complainants stressed that they are doing it for the Filipino people.
The third impeachment complaint was filed by the following:
- priests from the Diocese of Novaliches, Order of Carmelites, Congregation of Mission
- founder and members of Stand Up for God Rosary Group
- founder of Stop Corruption Philippines
- Union of People’s Lawyers in Mindanao
- Member, Konsensya Davao and Selda
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte expressed taking the positive side of the impeachment complaints being filed against her. According to the Vice President, it will be the venue where she can properly address the accusations against her.
The Vice President also stressed that it will focus the investigation on her and spare her staff members in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) as well as her former staff members in the Department of Education (DepEd).
Part of the issues cited in the impeachment complaints filed against Duterte were the questions regarding the Confidential Funds spending of the OVP as well as the education department during Duterte’s term as the DepEd Secretary.
It was in June of this year when Vice Pres. Sara Duterte resigned from being the DepEd Secretary. Previously, amid the accusations against his daughter and her souring relationship with Pres. Bongbong Marcos, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte expressed confidence that VP Sara will be able to handle the issues against her.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke on the impeachment complaints against her. Based on a report on GMA News, the Vice President already has lawyers in case the complaints will be processed and there will be an impeachment trial. Her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, is also ready to be her lawyer.
“So, okay din ‘yung impeachment case dahil ako lang ang tinitira doon, ako lang iniimbestigahan noon. Ako lang ang inaatake ng impeachment case,” the Vice President previously said.
Amid the questions about the spending of the budget of the OVP and the DepEd, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the House members to also investigate the Confidential Funds spending of Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ office. The Office of the President is the highest spender of the CIFs this year.
The Duterte’s thought that the whole Philippines is part of Davao.
