3rd Impeachment Complaint vs. VP Sara Duterte Officially Received by House
SARA DUTERTE – The Philippine Vice President is faced with the 3rd impeachment complaint filed against her by religious groups and lawyers.
Vice Pres. Duterte is currently faced with several issues just as the Office of the Vice President. The VP was previously issued a subpoena by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) due to her threats against the Marcoses.
However, Vice Pres. Duterte did not appear before the NBI for the investigation. Instead, her lawyer represented her and her camp submitted a letter. The bureau refused to take her letter as her sworn statement.
Despite her absence at the investigation of the NBI, the Department of Justice or DOJ assured Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that the investigation will be fair. On the subpoena against her, the Vice President previously accused the NBI that it has allegedly decided to file a case even before the probe.
Aside from the subpoena issued by the National Bureau of Investigation, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is also faced with impeachment complaints. Recently, the third impeachment complaint was filed against the Vice President.
Based on a report on GMA News, religious groups, lawyers, and priests were behind the 3rd impeachment complaint versus Duterte. It was accepted by the House of Representatives.
The people behind the said impeachment complaint cited several grounds including betrayal of public trust and graft and corruption over the alleged misuse of the confidential funds.
The lawyer of the complainants, Amando Virgil Ligutan, said their findings is based on the investigation of the House good government and public accountability committee over confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
Previously, after two (2) impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the House panel decided to stop the probe citing that the inquiry is in aid of legislation. Thus, the panel decided to stop it to prevent it from being used in the impeachment complaints.
Based on the report, the complainants of the impeachment complaint also accused Vice Pres. Duterte of willful public fund misuse. They cited the use of names which had no matching birth records according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
According to PSA, more than 1,300 names of the Confidential Funds recipients have no matching birth records. Amid the issue, Vice Pres. Duterte is looking at the positive side of the complaints saying that it will be a venue to address the accusations.
