Dr. Tony Leachon Lambasts PhilHealth Christmas Party / Anniversary Spending
PHILHEALTH CHRISTMAS PARTY – Dr. Tony Leachon slammed the state-run health insurance provider for allegedly spending P138 million for its event.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or more popularly called PhilHealth is undeniably one of the state entities that is surrounded by issues over its budget spending. For 2025, the lawmakers have agreed to give the health insurance provider a zero subsidy.
Senator Grace Poe previously said that PhilHealth will be given a zero subsidy in 2025 as they should use their reserve funds. According to the Senator who heads the Senate finance committee, the state entity may have around P600 billion reserve funds kept in a bank.
Poe stressed that the government is in the losing end as the money earns very little. Meanwhile, according to the Senator, it will still be given its budget for the operation.
Senate President Chiz Escudero claimed the lapses of PhilHealth are the reason why the lawmakers deprived it of a subsidy. According to the Senate President, they have not properly fulfilled their job and their reserve funds is allegedly evident of their failure to function.
Escudero expressed his hope that PhilHealth will take the zero subsidy verdict as a wake up call. He stressed that the “zero billing” mandate under the Universal Healthcare Law was not followed by the health insurance provider.
““Dahil sa kapalpakan ‘yun. Ito sana magsilbing wake up call sa kanila… Hindi para sa amin na i-reward ang kapalpakan nila sa pagbibigay na naman ng perang itetengga,” the Senate President said.
