Claudine Barretto Guides Alfy Yan, Rico Yan’s Nephew, Into Showbiz
CLAUDINE BARRETTO – Actress Claudine Barretto has played a pivotal role in paving the way for Alfy Yan’s showbiz debut, offering guidance and support as he steps into the entertainment industry.
Alfy Yan, the 19-year-old nephew of the late actor Rico Yan, recently made his debut in the entertainment industry during a press conference arranged by Viva Artists Agency on December 10, 2024. The event marked Alfy’s first public appearance before the media, offering him a platform to discuss his decision to join showbiz and his journey so far.
Alfy, the son of Rico’s sister, Geraldine Yan-Tueres, shared how his interest in the entertainment industry developed. Reflecting on his early exposure to the spotlight, Alfy recalled how he first gained attention back in 2020 at just 15 years old. “I started trending back in 2020. At the time, I was only 15. Now that I’m 19, I’ve gotten the feel for it more and try to test the waters first and see where it goes,” he said. He emphasized that he is taking things one step at a time, exploring different aspects of showbiz and gauging his interest.
When asked about his aspirations, Alfy revealed that he hopes to follow in his late uncle’s footsteps. “I think I’m trying to get the feel of how it is. Of course, following in his footsteps, he started with commercials while he was still studying,” Alfy shared. He expressed his desire to follow a similar path, starting with smaller projects like commercials and gradually expanding his career.
Alfy’s entry into the industry was made possible with the support of Rico’s ex-girlfriend, actress Claudine Barretto. During a family gathering, Claudine encouraged Alfy to pursue showbiz, asking him if he was interested in something beyond baseball. Initially hesitant, Alfy’s perspective changed, and he expressed interest in becoming a brand ambassador and influencer-actor. Claudine’s support was a key factor in Alfy’s decision to take the leap into the entertainment world.

Claudine spoke warmly about Alfy’s decision to join showbiz, highlighting how it felt like a continuation of Rico’s legacy. “Everybody has been rooting for Alfy for a long time. When Geraldine and Francis (Alfy’s father) agreed, it gave hope to Rico Yan fans. I want to carry on what Rico might have wanted in his career,” she said. This heartfelt sentiment echoed in Alfy’s response, as he acknowledged the pressure that comes with following in his uncle’s footsteps but also expressed confidence in doing his own thing.
Growing up, Alfy was acutely aware of his uncle’s significant impact on the entertainment industry. “It’s really cool to hear about all the things my uncle did,” he said.
