Police Authorities Recovered Car Taken in ‘Pasalo Modus’ Scheme
PASALO SCAM – A car taken in ‘Pasalo Modus’ scheme was recovered by the police authorities in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) recovered a car reported missing for months during a follow-up operation in Sta. Cruz, Manila. The operation is a step in addressing the “pasalo” scam.
The car’s owner sought police assistance after a transaction in July went wrong. The owner had agreed to a “pasalo” arrangement with a buyer, essentially transferring the vehicle’s ownership under the condition that the new party would continue paying the bank loan.

“Ito ay pina-assume niya yung tinatawag natin na “pasalo” so ibig sabihin inilipat na niya ang kanyang karapatan doon sa sasakyan ngunit may usapan sila na kapag ito hindi nagbayad sa bangko yung tao na ‘yon ibabalik niya yung sasakyan. Ngunit hindi ito naganap o hindi nangyari kaya mula noon itinakbo na niya yung sasakyan,” QCPD-DACU chief investigator PEMS Dennis Telen said.
However, the agreement included a fallback if payments were not made, the car would be returned. Unfortunately, the buyer failed to honor this agreement and disappeared with the car.
By October, the owner had filed a complaint against the buyer, accusing them of violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act. During the investigation, authorities discovered that the car had already been pawned to another individual for P300,000.
Thankfully, the vehicle was recovered in this follow-up operation, bringing some relief to the rightful owner.
The police emphasized the importance of vigilance to avoid falling victim to scams like this. They advised that all transactions, especially those involving vehicles, should be conducted with the guidance and approval of the bank.
It ensures that agreements are legally binding and prevents complications like those seen in “pasalo” scams.
