House Lawmakers React To Claim of VP Sara Duterte about Alleged Threat to her Life

SARA DUTERTE – The lawmakers and the authorities tagged the death threat claim of the Vice President as “fake”.

Vice Pres. Duterte is undeniably one of the most controversial politicians in the Philippines now. There are several questions over the budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) as well as the Department of Education (DepEd) Confidential Funds during her term.

Duterte also earned different reactions from her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Since she stepped down as the education secretary, the Filipinos have witnessed a deteriorating relationship between the Vice President and the President.

The remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that seemingly ignited threats against the life of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez hooked the attention of the authorities.

The National Bureau of Investigation or NBI issued a subpoena against Duterte over her remarks against Marcos Jr. The investigation bureau wants the Vice President to explain her remarks against the Chief Executive. They also assured to look into the claim of the Vice President that there was a death threat against her.

However, recently, the lawmakers and the authorities tagged the claim of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that there is allegedly a threat in her life as “fake”. The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police have spoken on the claim of the Vice President.

“The supposed assassination threats against Vice President Duterte are fake — completely unfounded and baseless,” Assistant Majority Leader Jude Acidre said.

Acidre also added that the claim of the Vice President is allegedly “as fabricated as the names ‘Mary Grace Piattos’ and ‘Kokoy Villamin’. The two (2) were among the names in the receipts submitted by the OVP as Confidential Funds recipients but they were found to have no record with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Based on the report, the AFP and the PNP also issued prior statements tagging the claim of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as “fake”. Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman also downplayed the claim of the Vice President.

According to Roman, her interpretation of the claim of the Vice President about the alleged threat against her life is a call for help. She stressed the possibility that Duterte is looking for probably looking for sympathy from her supporters.

“For me, it’s non-existent. I don’t believe there is a real threat to VP Sara’s life,” Roman said.

Reportedly, Roman added that in the case of Marcos Jr., there is a credible threat. The PNP has previously issued a statement dismissing the claim of the Vice President and it was followed by the AFP which also said it has not received any information about it.

Currently, the Vice President is faced with two (2) impeachment complaints. Recently, the PSA data showed that over 400 names listed as recipients of the Confidential Funds of the OVP and the DepEd have no records with the statistics authority.
