House Official Speaks on Impeachment Complaints vs. VP Sara Duterte

HOUSE OFFICIAL – Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith Flores admitted that the schedule of the lower chamber is tight on the impeachment complaints versus Vice President Sara Duterte.

Two (2) impeachment complaints have been filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. One of the complaints has 16 complainants while the other complaint has over 70 complainants. Both gained different reactions from the public.

One of the biggest churches in the Philippines, the Iglesia ni Cristo or INC, is against the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. It expressed its support on the stand of Pres. Bongbong Marcos regarding the issue.

Prior to an impeachment complaint being filed against the Vice President, Marcos admitted that he is not in favor of filing an impeachment complaint against Duterte. According to the Chief Executive, it will not do any good to the Filipino people.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. also stressed that an impeachment complaint will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. He did not hesitate to reveal that he told the House members that “Sara is unimportant” in the bigger scheme.

Duterte has been throwing tirades against Marcos Jr. and his family for several months now. Amid the issue, the Palace clarified that the Office of the President has nothing to do with the impeachment complaints against the Vice President.

A House official expects that more impeachment complaints may be filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. However, another official of the lower chamber admitted that it may be challenging to process the complaints in terms of the schedule.

Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores, vice chair of the House Committee on Justice, admitted that the impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is faced with constraints on the number of session days left. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the House official also said that the process may be long.

“One of the issues nga is ‘yung kakulangan sa number of session days, we will be encountering kung dadaan man sa ruta ng Committee on Justice,” Flores said.

Based on the report, the House panel that will handle the complaints has 60 days to decide whether to recommend the dismissal of the complaint or its sending to the Senate after the process. The House official admitted that the schedule is really tight given the remaining sessions in the 19th Congress.

According to Flores, many of the lawmakers will also be preparing for the 2025 Midterm Elections. The House official said that many of them have already returned to their home provinces.

“I’m sorry to admit that, pero medyo tight (it is a little tight),” Flores said.

Amid the issues against her, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte highlighted the essence of Christmas but admitted that she will not forget.
