Former Sen. Leila de Lima Serves as Complainant of Impeachment Case vs. VP Sara Duterte
LEILA DE LIMA – The former Senator spoke on the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Several issues and allegations are currently surrounding Vice Pres. Duterte. She is faced with a subpoena from the National Bureau of Investigation or NBI following her remarks that seemingly sparked threats on the lives of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Duterte is also being questioned in the House of Representatives regarding the Confidential Funds spending of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd). However, the Vice President skipped several House hearings.
Recently, a member of the House of Representatives claimed that an impeachment complaint is set to be filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte this December. ACT Teacher’s Party-List Representative France Castro said they were gathering signatures and she’s confident that it will be successful in the lower chamber.
The impeachment plan versus Vice Pres. Duterte did not gain the support of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Amid the Vice President’s recent tirades against him and his family, Marcos said that an impeachment complaint against Duterte will not do any good to any Filipino.
According to BBM, an impeachment proceeding will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. He stressed that the Vice President is “unimportant” in a larger scheme.
The remarks of the Chief Executive did not sit well with the Makabayan Bloc. According to the party-lists’ group, the move of the President is allegedly an “interference” and a violation in the separation of powers as stated in the Constitution. They also said that it allegedly showed a “weak leadership”.
Despite the disapproval of Pres. Marcos, an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was recently filed. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the complainants included Francis Aquino Dee, Fr. Flaviano Villanueva, Teresita Quintos Deles, Randy Delos Santos (uncle of Kian Delos Santos), and Fr. Robert Reyes among others. The group’s spokesperson is former Sen. Leila de Lima.
“Sa pananaw ng group of complainants, this is the time. This is the right time. Kailan pa? Ano pa ba ang hihintayin natin? Hihintayin pa ba ‘yung next elections,” De Lima told TeleRadyo Serbisyo’s Johnson Ikwento Mo.
Former Sen. Leila de Lima raised on questions on the recent behavior of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and the kind of vice president that the Filipinos deserve. Based on the report, she stressed that the Vice President is allegedly “feeling untouchable”.
“Ang pinakatanong dito is do we deserve such kind of a vice president? Hanggang kailan pa natin titiisin ‘yung kaniyang mga asal… Feeling untouchable, mas mataas siya sa batas,“ kayang-kaya niya to make any kind of threats and any kind of mga tantrums na verging on a criminal behavior,” De Lima said.
Aside from Pres. Bongbong Marcos, presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos is also against the impeachment complaint versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid her tirades against the Marcoses.
