Ninoy Aquino’s Grandson Kiko Aquino Dee Explains Side on Impeachment Complaint vs. VP Sara Duterte
Kiko Aquino Dee, the grandson of the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino, is one of the signatories in the impeachment complaint versus Vice President Sara Duterte.
Aside from the subpoena issued by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte over her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the Vice President is also faced with an impeachment complaint.
Previously, a House member confirmed that an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is rolling. According to ACT Teachers’ Party-List France Castro, they were gathering signatories for the complaint against the Vice President.
Following the remarks of the House member, Pres. Bongbong Marcos admitted that he is not in favor of an impeachment complaint versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to him, it will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Marcos also stressed that an impeachment complaint against Duterte will allegedly do no good to a single Filipino. The Makabayan Bloc tagged the statement of the President as allegedly a sign of a “weak leadership”.
Despite the disagreement of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, there were 16 complainants who filed an impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
One of the complainants behind the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is Kiko Aquino Dee, the grandson of the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino and former Pres. Cory Aquino.
Kiko Aquino Dee was recently vocal when he expressed his request not to drag their family in the Marcos-Duterte issue. His request came after Vice Pres. Sara Duterte accused the Marcoses of allegedly masterminding the death of Ninoy Aquino.
In an interview with Karen Davila for ANC 24/7, Kiko Aquino Dee said that the complainants came from different civil society groups. According to him, they initially met for the celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary which led to a talk about Charter Change and they felt the need to act on the behavior of the Vice President.
“And now all of a sudden again, we have a Vice President that sort of dropped some very very grave and troubling words that I think changed the calculus for all of us… Painted a lot of her past actions a new light and we decided we have to act again so a lot of us came together to file this complaint,” the grandson of Ninoy Aquino said.
During the interview, Kiko Aquino Dee expressed his confusion as to some spending declared by the Department of Education (DepEd) under the Confidential Funds. Vice Pres. Duterte is being questioned about the CIF spending of the DepEd and the OVP.
“I’m not sure why you need to classify as confidential a sort of seminar for students. I mean I’m a teacher as well, that’s something that is very innocent, very transparent… It does not necessarily have significant sort of national security implications,” Kiko expressed.
Based on the interview, the complaint is more about the spending of the funds of the office led by Duterte and not mainly about her remarks. Aside from BBM, Senator Imee Marcos also expressed her disagreement on the impeachment plan versus Duterte.
