Mommy Vlogger Encourages Netizens to Break Away From Stereotypes & Allows Kids to Explore Freely
A mommy vlogger went viral online after reminding her fellow parents and netizens that toys are genderless.
Recently, Mommy Nins Po, a Facebook vlogger, encouraged parents to break away from stereotypes and allow kids to explore their interests freely. The post circulated online and elicited comments from netizens.
In her vlog, Mommy Nins recounted a visit to a toy store with her young son. Like most kids, he eagerly roamed through the aisles, eventually stopping at the play kitchen section to imitate baking, a hobby they often pretend to do at home.
“Toys are genderless. Ang mga manika, puwede sa batang lalaki, ang mga kotse-kotsehan, baril-barilan, puwede ‘yan sa batang babae,” she said.
However, a store salesman approached and remarked that such toys were “for girls.” Despite her initial annoyance, she stayed calm, letting her son explore further.
Her son’s curiosity led him to the dolls, particularly a Snow White figure. Once again, the salesman commented, suggesting her son’s choices were unusual. Though frustrated, Mommy Nins didn’t confront him. Instead, she let her son pick what he wanted and purchased the doll.
The following day, her son brought Snow White to school. His teacher shared how he played a charming role as the prince for his doll, showing his creativity and imagination.
The lady influencer consulted a developmental pediatrician who reassured her that toys and even colors are gender-neutral and that children’s preferences should never be a cause for concern.
Mommy Nins hopes to inspire fellow parents to give their children the freedom to choose their toys. She reminded everyone that today’s playful choices might hint at tomorrow’s great chefs, race car drivers, or innovators.
“Malay n’yo ‘yong anak n’yo, mahilig sa mga lutu-lutuan kasi one day, he will become a great chef. Malay n’yo ‘yong anak n’yong babae, na mahilig sa mga kotse-kotsehan, or motor, ay magiging race car driver one day. Hindi n’yo masabi, ‘di ba?” she added.
