Carlo Aquino has a high regard for Julia Barretto
Actor Carlo Aquino said that his movie leading lady actress Julia Barretto deserves the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 Best Actress Award.
Carlo and Julia first worked together in the movie Expensive Candy which was released in September 2022. This showcased a more mature Julia. The movie was directed by Paul Laxamana who is also the director of their MMFF movie Hold Me Close.
As of this writing, the list of nominees for the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal has not been released yet. However, most likely, Julia will be up against award-winning actresses Vilma Santos for the movie Uninvited and Judy Ann Santos for the movie Espantaho.
During a recent press conference for Hold Me Close, Julia Barretto was asked if she has what it takes to go up against Star for All Seasons and the drama queen.
It was Carlo Aquino who answered this question. “Of course! Juju is such a great actress here. That’s just me but, right Direk?” the actor said and asked for their director’s confirmation.
The actress was in approaching this question. She said that the fact that their movie is part of the 50th anniversary of the film festival is already a big honor for them.
“I’m not sure how to answer this question. I consider Vilma and Judy Ann as my idols. Even to be mentioned next to their names, makes me shy,” Julia said. She added that being part of the MMFF 2024 is a great honor and she is very grateful.
Hold Me Close is about the story of Woody (Carlo Aquino) who spent seven years traveling around the world to find a place to settle. Then, he tried Japan where he meets Lynlyn (Julia Barretto) who has the special ability to identify people who can bring happiness or harm to her and she will know this just by touching them.
