4Ps Program Helps Lower the Number of Child Workers

QC Representative Says 4Ps Program Helps Reduce the Number of Child Workers in PH

4Ps PROGRAM – The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) has helped to reduce the child labor in the Philippines.

According to Quezon City Representative Marvin Rillo, the program helped lower the number of working children by 26%. This drop means fewer children have to work to support their families, allowing them to stay in school and focus on their education.

Under the 4Ps program, beneficiary families receive financial assistance, but a key condition is that their children must remain enrolled in school. This requirement aims to ensure that children receive proper education rather than joining the workforce at an early age.

To further encourage attendance, Representative Rillo provided school uniforms, shoes, bags, and other supplies to students from these families.

Recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) highlights the program’s impact. The number of working children aged 5 to 17 decreased from 1.48 million in 2022 to 1.09 million, a huge improvement in a short period.

The government has allocated P114.2 billion for the 4Ps program in 2025, up from P106.3 billion this year. This increase will benefit 4.4 million families nationwide.

Under the program, families receive monthly financial aid, including P300 for children in daycare or elementary, P500 for junior high students, and P700 for senior high students, distributed over ten months.

Additional support includes P750 per month for health and nutrition needs and a P600 monthly rice subsidy.

Through this program, 4Ps continues to lift families out of poverty while ensuring children can stay in school and avoid early labor. It emphasizes the government’s commitment to building a brighter future for Filipino youth.

What is 4Ps?

The 4Ps, or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, is a government initiative in the Philippines aimed at reducing poverty by providing conditional cash transfers to low-income families. It is modeled after similar programs in other countries, like Brazil’s Bolsa Família.

The 4Ps is designed to improve health, education, and overall well-being, especially for children.
