Male Passenger in Davao City Expresses Dismay Over Taxi Driver’s Overcharging
OVERCHARGING – A male passenger has expressed his disappointment with an overcharging taxi driver in Davao City.
Recently, Pao Modequillo Rosello, a Facebook user, shared his frustrating experience with an overcharging taxi driver in Davao City. The post quickly circulated online and elicited comments from netizens.
Rosello had just arrived from a tiring 2 AM flight from Singapore and was eager to get home. While waiting in line for a taxi at the airport, he was skipped by the driver at the front of the line because his destination—Victoria Heights, Mamay—was too close to the airport.
The driver seemed more interested in a longer, more profitable trip. When the other passenger chose a different taxi, the driver reluctantly took him. The ride wasn’t pleasant either, as the driver started complaining about missing out on the other passenger.
Then, halfway through the trip, the driver pulled a common trick and said, “Ikaw na bahala, sir,” which is usually code for “I’m not using the meter, so pay extra.”
Too exhausted to argue, Pao handed over P150 for what should’ve been an P80-P90 trip. He shared how disappointing it was that some drivers assume returning overseas passengers are loaded with cash.

Pao also pointed out how this kind of behavior hurts Davao’s image as a city known for honest taxi drivers. While he knows many drivers are hardworking and fair, he’s frustrated by how often this kind of thing happens.
He ended his post by reminding everyone that we’re all just trying to earn a living, and fairness should go both ways. The incident points out the need for stricter enforcement of taxi regulations to stop drivers from taking advantage of passengers.
