Authorities Arrest Delivery Rider and Colleague During Drug Buy-Bust Operation
A delivery rider and his colleague were arrested during a drug buy-bust operation in Sariaya, Quezon.
A drug buy-bust operation is a law enforcement tactic used to catch individuals involved in the illegal drug trade. In this operation, undercover officers pose as buyers or sellers of drugs to lure suspects into a transaction. Once the drugs are exchanged, the authorities move in and arrest the individuals involved.
This type of operation helps authorities target drug dealers and disrupt the illegal drug market by directly catching individuals in the act of selling or distributing drugs.
Last weekend, Sariaya Municipal Police Station launched a drug buy-bust operation in Sariaya, Quezon. The police authorities arrested two men from Candelaria during the operation.
Authorities seized over a kilogram of suspected illegal drugs (methamphetamine) from the suspects, with an estimated street value of around P20 million.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Carlo Caceres, the head of the Sariaya Municipal Police Station, an undercover officer posed as a buyer to catch the suspects in the act. After the transaction was completed and the drugs were handed over, the suspects were promptly arrested.
Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects worked as a delivery rider for a well-known online shop. It is believed that the suspect was using his job as a cover for transporting illegal drugs.
Authorities speculated that the suspects may have assumed that law enforcement would be distracted by preparations for an incoming typhoon, making it easier for them to conduct their illegal activities undetected.
The two suspects are now in the custody of the Sariaya Municipal Police Station. The suspects have yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
The suspects face charges under Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
