Pres. Bongbong Marcos Wants Gov’t To Be in Solidarity with the Typhoon Victims
BONGBONG MARCOS – The Philippine President is calling on the agencies of the government to skip luxurious celebrations this Christmas.
Now that the Christmas season is here once again and we are just a month away from Christmas, preparations for parties have surely started. However, amid the season which is considered the most wonderful time of the year, many of our Filipino brothers and sisters are grappling against the impacts of the typhoons.
Several storms have recently hit the Philippines. One of them is severe tropical storm Kristine which brought heavy rains and strong winds that left several cities and municipalities in deep flooding.
The State of Calamity was declared in several areas across the nation — 78 cities and municipalities in the Bicol Region, 63 cities and municipalities in Calabarzon, and 13 areas in Eastern Visayas among others.
After severe tropical storm Kristine, typhoons Leon and Marce also entered the Philippines and brought heavy rains in several areas across the nation. They were followed by three (3) more typhoons — Nika, Ofel, and Pepito.
Typhoon Pepito brought heavy rains and strong winds that caused intense flooding in several areas leading to damages in structures and loss of lives. Many families lost their homes and source of income to the impact of the storm.
Amid many Filipinos in unfortunate situations now, Pres. Bongbong Marcos called on the government agencies to avoid luxurious Christmas celebrations. Based on a report on GMA News, the call of the Chief Executive was announced by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
“Alinsunod sa panawagan ng ating Pangulo, hinihikayat namin ang lahat ng ahensya ng pamahalaan na iwasan ang mga marangyang pagdiriwang ngayong Pasko,” Bersamin said.
Meanwhile, Malacañang did not release a proclamation or an official order regarding the call of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for government agencies to avoid lavish celebrations this Christmas. According to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, they believe that an official order is no longer needed as they believe in the kindness of their fellow government workers.
Bersamin stressed that the call of the President is in solidarity with the millions of Filipinos who fell victims to the six (6) storms that hit the Philippines in less than a month. Based on the report, the Palace also asked the government agencies to donate to the typhoon victims whatever they can save from skipping lavish Christmas celebrations.
According to the Executive Secretary, on the part of the government, they will make sure that the typhoon victims will still feel the spirit of Christmas through the relief goods and assistance that will be extended to them, the rebuilding of infrastructures, and the restoration of livelihoods.
Prior to the call on government agencies, Pres. Bongbong Marcos called on the Filipinos to unite and to pray amid the Philippines braving storms.
