On its first hearing regarding the war on drugs of the previous administration, the upper chamber was able to get the appearance of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte right away. It was Senator Bato dela Rosa who confirmed the attendance of Duterte to the probe.

However, with regards to the investigation of the House Quad Committee, the former President skipped the hearing several times prior to his recent attendance. According to his lawyer, the former President has no full trust on the integrity and independence of the House Quad Comm.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte also made a prior claim that attending the House hearing will be costly for him. According to him, he is living within his retirement pay now and he had no savings in the bank.

Meanwhile, recently, he appeared at the House Quad Comm hearing in Batasang Pambansa. At the hearing, Duterte gestured as if he will hit former senators Leila de Lima and Antonio Trillanes IV. It gained different reactions from the public.

De Lima admitted that she is offended by the action of the former President which she described as “lack of decency” and “cowardice”. At the House hearing, the former President also mentioned the International Criminal Court.

In 2019, Duterte who was the president then withdrew the Philippines from the Rome Statute, the treat that established the ICC. His decision came after Hague-based tribunal started an investigation on his administration’s war on drugs.

At the House hearing, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte encouraged the ICC to come to the Philippines and start the investigation right away. According to him, he might die without being investigated by the international court.

  1. ICC has no longer jurisdiction since our country resigned as member yet they will allow the ICC to come and arrest FPRRD? Pilate style 🙄

  2. Very absurd and sarcastic for the ICC to intervene with internal political matters regarding Duterte’s war on drugs during his time of presidency..ICC is out of jurisdiction in our country and could be held liable by the international law…A general fact that every sane and intellectual person knows!!!
