PAGASA Says Tropical Storm to Enter PAR, To Be Named ‘Pepito’

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that a tropical storm is set to enter PAR and will be named Pepito.

On Wednesday (November 13, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. A tropical storm with the international name Man-Yi is set to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday evening (November 14).

PAGASA reported that Pepito may intensify into a severe tropical storm on Wednesday and even reach the super typhoon category. It is expected to make landfall over the eastern coast of Luzon during the weekend.

“The possibility of rapid intensification is not ruled out. Since this tropical cyclone may reach typhoon category while over the Philippine Sea, the possibility for MAN-YI to reach super typhoon category prior to landfall is also not ruled out,” PAGASA said.

Man-Yi was located at 1,965 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas moving west-southwestward at 30 kilometers per hour. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

“The possibility of rapid intensification is not ruled out. Since this tropical cyclone may reach typhoon category while over the Philippine Sea, the possibility for MAN-YI to reach super typhoon category prior to landfall is also not ruled out,” the agency added.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Ofel located at 485 kilometers east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Ofel is set to steadily intensify within 24 hours, which may cause a moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surge over Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, and northern Aurora.
