Female Pedestrian in BGC, Taguig Hit by SUV That Neglected Red Light
A female pedestrian was thrown after being hit by an SUV that ignored a red light in BGC, Taguig, on November 6, 2024 (Wednesday).
The incident happened in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig, was captured on video by a bystander. The video quickly spread like wildfire on social media and elicited comments from netizens.
Nicole Mercado, the victim, was on her way to work, patiently waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green. Out of nowhere, an SUV sped through the red light, hitting her and causing her to be thrown several feet across the road.
Thankfully, Nicole only suffered bruises and a bump on her head, but the whole experience has left her shaken.
The SUV driver, reportedly rushing to pick someone up, was involved in the incident. After receiving medical attention, Nicole clarified that she hadn’t agreed to any kind of settlement, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
She mentioned that in the confusion, she didn’t realize she had signed a document that could potentially clear the driver of responsibility. She was distressed and not fully aware of what she was signing.
Nicole shared her frustration about the lack of fair compensation from the driver, who, she says, refused to cover her missed workdays. The whole experience has been so traumatizing that she’s even considering not returning to her job in BGC.
The Taguig City Traffic Bureau hasn’t commented on the incident yet, nor has the driver made any public statement.
As of this writing, Nicole continues to recover, hoping for accountability and reflecting on the impact of this incident.
