Lady Passenger Shares “Sardine-Like” Experience in Modern Jeepney Ride
A lady passenger shared her experience during her first time riding in a modern jeepney, saying, “isiniksik ang mga pasahero na parang sardinas.”
Recently, Marou Pahati Sarne, a Facebook user, shared her experience of riding a modern jeepney for the first time and expected a comfortable ride but her experience was far from it. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to Sarne, her first ride in the modern jeepney was cramped and uncomfortable. She felt that riding in a traditional jeepney would have been a better option. Passengers were packed tightly, making it feel, in her words, “like sardines.
Although the vehicle had air conditioning, it didn’t provide much relief because the doors were constantly open to allow more passengers to board. With the door open, not only was the air conditioning ineffective, but vehicle fumes from outside also made their way into the jeepney, making the ride unpleasant.
The crowded conditions became especially challenging when Marou tried to exit the jeepney. She found it nearly impossible to pass through the aisle due to the overcrowding, and she accidentally stepped on other passengers who were standing in the middle.
Despite the situation, the conductor only suggested they “switch places” to make space, while another passenger joked that they were already “swapping faces” due to how tightly packed they were.

“First time kong sumakay sa modern jeep. Mas maayos pa yatang sumakay sa traditional jeepney. Dito, isiniksik ang mga pasahero na parang sardinas, hindi mo maramdaman ang aircon kasi laging nakabukas ang pinto dahil pasakay sila ng pasakay ng pasahero, at pumapasok din ang usok ng mga sasakyan sa labas dahil nga nakabukas yung pinto. At nang bababa na ako, halos di ako makadaan dahil sobra talagang siksikan sa gitna. Naaapakan ko na yung mga nakatayo. Sabi nung konduktor, palitan na lang ng puwesto. Sabi nung isa: nagkakapalitan na nga kami ng mukha.”
