Why will Pia Wurtzbach let go of these sentimental things in her career?
Beauty queen-turned-fashion influencer Pia Wurtzbach will have some of her pageant memorabilia be auctioned.
Pia Wurtzbach followed in the footsteps of Filipina Miss Universe winners Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margarita Moran (1973). This was a historic win for the country as after 42 years before her victory, we were in drought.
Pia was crowned Miss Universe 2015 and ever since then, her career in various aspects spiked. In the same event in 2015, her win did not happen without controversy. She was first named as the first runner-up but the host owned up to his mistakes and right there and then, he announced the real winner.
It was a global controversy but apart from this, Wurtzbach also became an icon and was loved and known for her “confidently beautiful with a heart” answer.
Her struggles before landing in the most prestigious beauty pageant and eventually emerging as the winner is not a secret. She joined the local pageant several times and found her luck on the third time. From this point, everything that followed became a history.
On her journey, she collected memorabilia. She gathered the physical pieces of proof of her struggle and recently, she announced that some of them will be auctioned off.
Now, why is she letting go of them?
During an interaction with a follower, she answered this and according to her, she is letting go of them for a greater purpose. The items will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to Love Yourself Inc., an HIV advocacy group.
The items to be put on auction are the following:
- The silver dress she wore when she was announced as part of the Top 15.
- Her sashes from Binibini up until Miss Universe.
- Her beloved notebooks that contained her thoughts while she was competing.
“I acquired these things during a very important time in my life.. and since then I’ve been so blessed. I can’t think of a better way to give it back to the same community that helped me become who I am now,” she expressed.
