Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Helps Flood Victims in Naga
LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President braved the floodwater for over 10 hours to distribute food and water to the victims of Tropical Storm “Kristine”.
Tropical Storm “Kristine” brought heavy rains that caused the canals to overflow in several areas in the Bicol region. Naga City is one of those that are greatly affected by the typhoon and countless people had to evacuate.
In Naga, the floodwater entered a shopping mall and the evacuees had to transfer to the second floor of the building. The flood in the low-lying areas in the city had reached roof-level thus, countless people had to leave their homes for safety.
Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is one of those who appealed for pump boats for the flood victims who were stuck in the roof of their houses. According to the former Vice President, several trucks were stalled due to flood.
The local government unit of Naga also asked for help as vehicles that can brave flood of three to six feet deep are needed. Kristine was expected to make a landfall either Wednesday or Thursday but it started raining as early as Tuesday causing several canals to overflow.
Thousands of people are currently in evacuation centers in Naga and many families lost their homes and livelihoods. Former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo is not bothered by the floodwater as she chose to soak to be able to distribute food and water to the flood victims.
Robredo and her team placed the water and food in rubber pumpboats and they braved the floodwater for the distribution of food and water to the people. Based on a post of Raffy Magno who is one of the team members of the former Vice President in sending help to the people, they braved the floodwater for over 10 hours.
The netizen admitted that he was too exhausted and he asked former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo if he can stay for a while as he is really tired. According to him, the former VP just answered “okay” and decided to brave the floodwater again to be able to distribute food and water to the people. Here’s the viral post:
“Bago siya umalis after mag refill ng mga goods sa truck, sabi ko kay Maam — paiwan po muna ako, dahil pagod na talaga. Ang sabi lang naman niya ay — okay. Hindi ko naman akalain na lulusong siya ulit. Nakababad kami sa baha since 7AM ngayong araw. Off to our last ikot tonight.”
Due to the flood, several vehicles of the residents of Camella Naga Subdivision were damaged after they were stalled in a corner by the floodwater.
