Class Suspensions for Thursday (October 24, 2024) Due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
WALANG PASOK – Various local government units have declared class suspensions in several areas due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
On Thursday (October 24, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that severe tropical storm Kristine was spotted in the vicinity of Tumauini, Isabela, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
Kristine took several lives and forced thousands of families to evacuate in numerous areas due to the massive flooding and landslides.
With Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 raised over Cagayan Valley and parts of northern Luzon, Kristine is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds, putting these areas at risk.
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has prompted authorities to cancel classes and suspend work in various parts of Luzon for Thursday. Due to the expected impact of the storm, which is expected to make landfall in Isabela, both public and private schools in the region will remain closed.
Government offices have also been ordered to suspend operations, except for agencies providing essential services such as health care and disaster response.
Originally, the suspension covered only the Bicol region, but as Kristine intensified, the order was extended to include all of Luzon. Private companies were given the discretion to decide whether or not to suspend work based on their own assessments.
