Bersamin Airs Malacañang Stand on PNP Reopening Investigation of Deaths Linked To Drug War
MALACAÑANG – The Palace expressed support on the reinvestigation by the PNP of the deaths linked to the Duterte drug war.
Its anti-drugs campaign is the most popular campaigns of the Duterte administration. Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has always been vocal about his pursuit even when he has yet to win the presidency.
Duterte even promised the Filipino people to clean the Philippines from drugs in a few months but he was not able to fulfill it. The former Chief Executive admitted that he miscalculated its extent in the country.
However, while there are those that lauded the war on drugs of the Duterte administration, there are also individuals and entitied who believe that the former administration allegedly did not follow all the rules to implement the campaign in a legal way.
There are individuals and entities that want to investigate the war on drugs as well as former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Senator Bato dela Rosa’s mandate on its implementation. Then, Dela Rosa was the head of the Philippine National Police.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa recently expressed his plan to launch a probe on war on drugs and invite former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte as a resource person. According to the Senator, he is confident that the former Chief Executive will attend the investigation most especially if it is him who will invite him.
Dela Rosa also expressed his belief that Duterte is more comfortable in the Senate than the House. Both the former President and the Senator declined the invitation of the House for a probe on the drug war.
Currently, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is planning to reopen the investigation of the deaths linked to the Duterte drug war. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the PNP’s plan is supported by Malacañang.
On the support of Malacañang on the reinvestigation of the deaths linked to the drug war under the Duterte admin, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said that it shows that “the Marcos administration places the highest importance on the fair dispensation of justice and on the universal observance of the rule of law in the country”.
Recently, Sen. Bong Go defended former Pres. Duterte against the critics of his admin’s drug war. The Senator recalled those instances when the people allegedly clapped and were in “standing ovation” when the former Chief Executive mentioned it.
