John Amores Suspended By PBA Without Pay

After the shooting incident, John Amores faces suspension in PBA.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) suspends NorthPort guard John Amores in the Commissioner’s Cup without pay.

NorthPort Batang Pier guard John Amores was involved in a shooting incident last September in Lumban, Laguna following the tension that transpired during a basketball game.

In a previous article, Amores was hunted by police due to a shooting, and hours after escaping, he surrendered to the authorities. He was with his brother and they were detained. The shooting incident was recorded in a CCTV which happened on a highway under broad daylight.

Fortunately, despite the several shots fired by the basketball player in a public place, no one got hurt.

By September 27, Amores bailed out, however, the other camp already filed charges against him. His arraignment and pre-trial will be on December 4.

Due to this incident, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) decided to suspend the NorthPort guard in the Commissioner’s Cup without pay. PBA commissioner Willie Marcial and league counsel Atty. Ogie Narvasa made this announcement on Friday.

“In coordination with the management of NorthPort, the Commissioner has decided that John Amores will be suspended for all his games in the next conference of the PBA’s 49th Season without pay for conduct detrimental to the league,” Narvasa said as he was reading the official statement.

This suspension includes not being allowed to sit on the NorthPort bench or watch the games at the venue. What he is, on the other hand, allowed to do is join the daily practices of Batang Pier with minimal allowance or the “residual”. This is the money left from his salary “while practicing and joining the team”.

In order to be able to play again in the league again, Amores accordingly has to do counseling for his anger and violent tendencies. He has to obtain a clearance first to return to action.

Amores is facing attempted homicide charges along with his brother John Red.
