In the Philippines, individuals who are working in the government are mandated to maintain a membership in the Government Service Insurance System. To do this, a member must regularly post a monthly contribution or savings.

Most often, it is the employer or the public office that directly deducts the GSIS monthly contribution from the members’ salaries. On the other side of maintaining an active membership to the state entity is the qualification to the loans offered by the GSIS.
