Will Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Push Through Senatorial Bid?
BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor will allegedly run for senator if his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, will run for mayor in their hometown.
Amid the period set for the filing of candidacies of those who want to run in the 2025 Elections, the Duterte supporters await the election bids of the members of the family. Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that PRRD and her brothers will vie for senators next year.
According to the Vice President, the information that her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, and her brothers, Paolo and Baste Duterte, will run for senator next year came from their matriarch, Elizabeth Zimmerman-Duterte.
Currently, amid the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy (COCs), none from the Duterte family has filed his COC. Recently, Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who is close to the Duterte family spoke on the possible senatorial bid of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte.
Based on a report on GMA News, Sen. Bato dela Rosa claimed that Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte has a condition in running for senator. The former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief said that the younger Duterte will run for senator if his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, will run for mayor in their hometown.
“Pero ang requirement lang niya is dapat si President Duterte ang tatakbong mayor ng Davao pero mukhang ‘di pa na-finalize,” Sen. dela Rosa said.
Based on the report, Sen. Bato dela Rosa said that he had a chance to talk to Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte when the son of the former President took his oath under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
Also called the PDP, it is the political party of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. It has merged with four (4) other major political parties in the Philippines to form a grand alliance. The Marcos administration supports the following senatorial bets:
- Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos,
- Makati City Mayor Abby Binay,
- Senator Pia Cayetano,
- Senator Lito Lapid,
- Senator Francis Tolentino,
- Senator Imee Marcos,
- Senator Ramon ”Bong” Revilla Jr.,
- former Senator Manny Pacquiao,
- former Senator Panfilo Lacson
- former Senator Vicente Sotto III,
- Deputy Speaker Camille Villar, and
- former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that Baste Duterte will run for president in 2028. Her announcement came amid her name being the frontrunner in potential presidential bets surveys. Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is also urged to run as the vice president of VP Sara.
