CARLOS YULO – Double Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo joined the Philippine Navy Reserve Force.
Olympic hero Carlos Edriel Yulo, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has officially joined the Philippine Navy Reserve Force. On Monday, Yulo took his oath at the Navy Headquarters, marking a significant new chapter in his life.
“I am proud to have the privilege of being enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected in my lifetime,” Yulo stated. The 24-year-old gymnast, who made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by becoming the first Filipino athlete to win two gold medals, expressed his gratitude and sense of honor in joining the ranks of the Navy.
“Wearing this Navy uniform fills me with immense pride. With all my heart, I thank the Philippine Navy for this prestigious recognition. I will uphold its core values and inspire today’s youth, showing them that through sports, they too can serve our country,” he said.
According to the Naval Public Affairs Office, the athlete holds the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class in the reserve force.
Yulo’s enlistment adds him to the growing roster of Filipino Olympic athletes serving the country in various branches of the military. These include Tokyo Olympics gold medalist weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and bronze medalist boxer Eumir Marcial, who both serve in the Air Force, and boxer Nesthy Petecio, a two-time Olympic medalist currently serving in the Philippine Coast Guard.
In his message, Philippine Navy Flag Officer In Command Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., conveyed through MGen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison PN, commended Yulo’s dedication “Your dedication, discipline, and drive made you a champion on the world stage, and now, you bring those same qualities to the Philippine Navy. We know that when you commit to something, you give it your all. I am confident you will do the same as a reservist, standing alongside men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our nation.”
Yulo’s impressive wins in the floor exercise and vault apparatus at the Paris Games have solidified his legacy, and now he embarks on a new journey, serving his country as a member of the Philippine Navy Reserve Force.
