Alice Guo on Seeking Reelection as Mayor: “Wala pa po akong definite na decision”

Former Mayor Alice Guo Answers Question on Election 2025

ALICE GUO – The dismissed Mayor of Bamban, Tarlac claimed that she has yet to decide whether or not she will seek the reelection as mayor in 2025.

After her unknown departure from the Philippines last July, former Mayor Guo is now in the hands of the Philippine authorities. Guo was arrested in Indonesia early this month. She was located by the Indonesian authorities in a rented apartment in Jakarta.

Guo is faced with a lot of accusations and complaints in the Philippines. Her supposed involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations is being investigated. She is also called by the lawmakers as “Guo Hua Ping”, a Chinese national who entered the Philippines in 2003.

According to the National Bureau of Investigation, the fingerprints of the former Mayor and the Chinese national matched — which suggests that they are the same person. However, Guo continuously does not confirm that she is not Guo Hua Ping.

Former Mayor Alice Guo is under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP). According to the authorities, she cannot be transferred under the custody of the Senate until she posts bail for the graft and corruption cases filed against her.

At the recent Senate hearings she attended, Guo asserted her Filipino citizenship and denied being involved in illegal POGOs. She also claimed that she was already thinking about going home to the Philippines before she was arrested in Indonesia.

According to Guo, they were already talking that she will return to the Philippines and face the charges and complaints filed against her. However, the lawmakers were not convinced by the claim of the former Mayor.

Based on the report, Ortega made a follow-up question asking Guo if she will still seek reelection as Bamban mayor if the issues now aren’t there. The former Mayor claimed that she has not really thought about it.

Meanwhile, according to Alice Guo, her slate during the 2022 Elections is determined to seek for reelection. According to the former Mayor, she has not talked to her vice mayor and councilors even prior to her escape from the Philippines.

The filing of the certificate of candidacy for the May 2024 Midterm Election is set from October 1 to October 8, 2024. Last month, the Ombudsman ruled to dismiss Guo and perpetually disqualify her from public office.
