Alice Guo Arrested in Indonesia, DOJ Releases Statement

DOJ – The Department of Justice confirmed the arrest of former Mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia on the eve of September 3, 2024.

Countless Filipinos were disappointed when former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo was able to leave the Philippines amid several complaints filed against her. She was also in the immigration lookout bulletin.

Guo is facing allegations of involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in Tarlac. The Philippine authorities also found that she is a Chinese national after Guo’s fingerprints matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national who entered the country in 2003.

The Ombudsman ruled for the dismissal of Guo. Several entities in the Philippines also filed complaints against her including the Bureau of Internal Revenue or BIR which filed a P500,000 tax evasion case against Guo.

However, last month, Senator Risa Hontiveros presented a document showing that Alice Guo has left the Philippines. She reportedly made the exit through Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the moved to Singapore then to Indonesia.

The companions of Alice Guo were detained by the authorities in Indonesia. They were sent back to the Philippines and are now in the custody of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Shiela Guo who claimed that Alice Guo is not her sister was sent to the Senate. Cassandra Ong who said that Alice is not her friend or business partner was sent to the House of Representatives.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian talked to the ASEAN ambassadors regarding the case of Alice Guo. The lawmaker previously expressed his confidence that the former Mayor cannot flee from Indonesia.

Recently, reports that former Mayor Alice Guo was arrested in Indonesia crossed the surface. Her arrest was confirmed by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to the DOJ, Alice Guo was arrested in Tangerang City in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesial Police Senior Superintendent Audie Latuheru said that Guo was arrested at 11:58 p.m. on September 3, 2024.

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla expressed his satisfaction on the result of the efforts of the authorities to search for Alice Guo. He also ensured that all legal processes will be followed.

“The arrest of Alice Guo is a testament to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement agencies and the strength of international cooperation in bringing fugitives to justice. We will ensure that all legal processes are followed to hold her accountable for any crimes committed,” Remulla said.
