A tribute from ABS-CBN
As he signed off, the final gap of the program was dedicated to him, and in a VTR, his broadcasting career has been remembered. His career started as a radio reporter for DZMM and back then, it was called Radyo Patrol 14.
In the long run, he was able to move up to television where he covered bigger and more significant national news and stories. Among the significant stories he was able to make included the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, release of OFW Angelo Dela Cruz, and being the face of investigative journalism in the Philippines.
He hosted XXX (Exklusibong, Explosibong, Exposé) and Krusada and he also became an anchor of Balitang Middle East. His career elevated and he reached TV Patrol Weekend and primetime TV Patrol.
In the same video, he received a message from his family based in Canada. One of them is his wife Gigi who expressed that finally, after a long wait, it is happening. He will finally be joining them in Canada and the waiting for this day to come is finally over.
They acknowledge how hard it must have been for him to say goodbye to the thing he’s been passionate about, he loves the most, and something he had dedicated his whole life doing.
“But with God’s blessing, I’m sure you will find ways and opportunities for you to share your stories here. This is home and we are happy and excited for you to be here,” she said based on the video.
The co-anchors of Diaz also gifted him some memorable items he can take with him as he starts a new life abroad. They’ve given him a TV Patrol and a hoodie where his HOD and his Radyo Patrol number 14 have been embroidered.
Diaz has been with ABS-CBN for 33 years. He started in 1991 and this continued until now.
