RICHARD GOMEZ – The actor-politician is currently in hot water following his traffic post and this is what he said about it.
Leyte Representative Richard Gomez asks: “Why not open EDSA bus lane during heavy traffic?”
This was reflected on the now-deleted post of Gomez about traffic but many were able to obtain a screenshot. Despite the deletion, the screenshots of the post spread like wildfire online and created a loud buzz leading to a backlash against the actor-politician.
In a Facebook post, Gomez asked why not open the bus lane to ease the traffic. This came after he got stuck on the road for hours inside his private car. He was frustrated after being stuck in traffic in Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare. Commuters, most especially, are not pleased with the suggestion.
Facebook page Dalawang Sentimo sa Kalye wrote reacting to the controversial post:
“This dude is complaining about traffic inside his air-conditioned car while the majority of Filipinos who commute have to endure noise and air pollution, the hot weather, and the traffic that is primarily caused by private cars.”
Many believes that his post was insensitive and was out of touch from the reality of the commuters.
Speaking about this, he accordingly sent a message to NewsWatch Plus and as per him, it was just his opinion and “reklamo” at that moment. He stressed that he did not use the bus lane or has a mobile backup to get through it but he just thought why not open the lane when it was much needed at that time.
He took for example was the skyway where the other side of the road was used in order to ease the traffic during certain times. He sees this strategy as a way to alleviate the traffic to which he think would be effective for bus lanes as well. He just thought that to use the bus lanes at certain times, especially during the times when the traffic is too heavy, would be helpful.
